Dominate the hills with your tank
Hills of Steel is a free 2D action mobile video game wherein you can drive different tanks. Developed by Superplus Games, this side-scrolling game is a physics-based riot wherein you must fight against other tanks to come out on top. You can compete against other players or challenge AI tanks at various levels. This game offers microtransactions, as well as a VIP monthly subscription plan.
Hills of Steel features a side-scroller type of gameplay similar to the first games of the Worms series. The controls are simple: press the left and right arrows to drive your tank in that direction and tap the tank ammo button to fire. There are visible health bars on both you and your enemies, while the bar at the top of the screen will fill up and trigger the boss fight.
The struggle in the game is that you can’t manually aim your cannon. You need to take advantage of the slopes and hills of the terrain. Racing up these uneven surfaces is the only time you can change your trajectory—and aiming close enough is the key to victory. The same applies to your enemies, so be careful where you place yourself. Different ammunition will have different default trajectories, too.
There are various game modes available. 1vs1, 2vs2, and Event are the multiplayer modes—however, the last one only occurs once a week and can also be played solo. The Adventure and Classic modes contain solo stages, with Classic offering endless levels. Clans, on the other hand, is where you can join and check out fellow clansmen. The game is easy enough to play, but it’s hard to stay alive due to the lack of healing pickups.
Pierce through the difficulties
All in all, Hills of Steel is a great action game for anyone who’s a fan of physics-driven gameplay. It can be tricky, and the customization options for your acquired tanks are pretty limiting. However, it can still be a fun game thanks to its multiplayer modes and the choice to join clans to expand your chances of fighting cool challenges. If the solo stages had some healing items that you can pick up on the go, you have the chance to survive much longer.
